Here's the scoop on my story, sans pictures.
Tailgate quit, no open. Peel back the part that the above post says has no screws and end up breaking the top screw to the tailgate inside plastic where it meets the latch. Nice. Must be a post '00 thing.
Unlatch tailgate, open up, take apart plastic and handle, see that solenoid works fine, it's the cheap, blue lightweight plastic part holding together two metal parts with a black hook that has snapped off. It got down to 20 degrees here, snap.
It's lined up with the hole on the bottom metal lever, so I drill a hole and tap a screw, which works great and promptly snaps the blue piece off shorter.
I drill anoher hole and twist a paperclip to hold them together. It works.
Assembly is the reverse of removal, and it's back to working, and the screw on the top part of the interior plastic is unmountable. But it WORKS. For FREE.
I consider that a win with injury.
So....if your gate is STILL MAKING NOISE, then you DO NOT need a solenoid, you need a HOOK, or a binder for the blue solenoid plunger to link it to the lever that engages the latch. The lever already has a hole in it.
And I really have to slam my glass to get it to latch closed now. May be just a hair too tight.
So...that's a double WIN because it probably won't squeak now. It'll loosen later.
Blazers rule. This would have destroyed an import, or cost money.
Officially Macguyver'ed Blazer with a permanent paper clip in the tailgate.
