I've been thinking of removing my tailgate, because it rattles like a mofo and is annoying as hell driving with it. I know they make rubber stoppers or something to keep it from rattling but the nets are suppose to give you better air flow out of the bed (increasing gas mileage) vortex affect. Any how, anyone have one?

And if so, any ideas on how to fix the space were the tailgate use to be so it's flush?

There are tests showing that driving without the tailgate actually decreases fuel economy, as compared with the tailgate in the up position. So you would probably be better off with some foam tape in the bed lip. To get even better mileage a bed cover works best.

It would make an already unbalanced truck worse, aside from looking like ass.

x4.

I think of tailgate nets as something that was cool back in the early 90's. lol.gif

Before the mythbusters even came about, I remember noticing having some loose hay in the back of my truck once. With the tailgate up, it slowly swirled around in a small circle behind the cab. With the tailgate down, it was all over the place. I just figured then it would be better with the tailgate up.

Soda cans in the back of the ElCamino just did circles all day if the tailgate was up. When down they would find a corner to hide in. They never blew out.
That tailgate raked forward about 20 degrees.

Keep your tailgate and get some foam tape to make it quit rattling.

Not sure what Mythbusters says, but I like the tonneau cover for aerodynamics even though it's a stupid name that's a PITA to spell. jester.gif

Tonneau cover's bubble up behind cab and push down near tailgate. Seems like low pressure behind cab and high pressure at back of bed before tailgate.

Probably why cans and straw are sucked forward instead of blown out on non covered beds? idunno.gif

They said something bad about them because of weight or some BS, I agree with you though that it is probably you're best bet to have one.

Mythbusters disproved Tonneau covers. They are just as economical as tailgate up.

Many people have reported mileage gains with soft tonneau covers. I can see where the added weight of a hard cover would negatively affect fuel mileage, to some degree. They're not THAT heavy.

Nets are gay. Overtime, your rear bed sides will get loose & wobbly. A shut & latched tailgate keeps them from buffeting in the wind and getting wobbly.

if you are going to run no tail gate you need bed side braces. like most prerunners that still have a bed use.

I dont think nets look bad at all, but yes you will lose gas milage thats for sure!! Heres a pic of my rig with the gate off and net on. I mounted the net so that i can also have both on at the same time. That way i dont have to take the net off when i want the gate back on for better milage.

That doesn't look bad.

Just outta curiousity, I'd be interested in seeing pics of that snorkel on your truck and how it's ran. Don't see too many of those on here.

I don't think they look bad either.

And apparently you missed the discussion on how the net actually gives you better mpg. lol.

Well atleast in my truck i have exsperienced worse gas milage with the net, but oh well its a truck not a hybrid lol. And ill see what i can do about the snorkel pics. Currently deployed in Afghanistan and have a lil down time get on a computer. dont really have many pics of the snorkel system. But i can tell you the system its self was ment for a 01 jeep wrangler that i heavily modified lol. Heres an older pic i have of when i first started messing with it.
