I'm looking at ordering a cat back exhaust for my 1998 extended cab short bed. I almost ordered the Dynomax WLK-19399, but i noticed that it was for the 2000-up model years. What's the difference, and whats a comparable system to use???
I really like the Dynomax kit, for its low exhaust note and using factory hangers and all.

Any help would be appreciated.

Avoid the Flowmaster Force II cat back. Complete garbage. Sound was ok. Resonator baffles failed early on around 1.5 yrs so it buzzed like a fart can. Took forever to get a replacement from FM. "Our welds don't fail." When asked about ordering a replacement piece I was told to replace the whole system. Eventually they caved and sent me a resonator for free. It only took 8 months. At around 50 K on the FM system the baffles in the muffler started buzzing.

I put the Walker kit on last fall. Got it from Summit for 229 - 75 Walker rebate. No complaints so far.

IMO the best sounding off the shelf kit was the all stainless Borla, which is no longer made. IIRC the Gibson kit is decent too but mostly stockish sounding.

I have the Dynomax kit, pretty happy with it. Especially since I got it for free (manufacturer sent me two by mistake).

AFAIK, 98-2003 should be the same? My suggestion would be to order from somewhere that you can return it if it doesn't fit.

I don't want loud. I would like to have a close to stock tone. Don't care for the pissed off bee stuff. Just want better flow, and good hangers, and welds.

I was wondering if the flange at the rear of the cat would be different from 98-2003 somewhere??? It would make sense that it would be something that stupid to keep me from getting the kit I want.

Just go buy the stainless steel muffler of your choice and have your local exhaust shop install it along with the aluminized pipes routed to where ever you want it to exit.

Dynomax is not loud. One tick louder than stock. Barely tell a difference.

x2, has a little growl / rumble when you drop the hammer (I'm running it with a K&N FIPK) and quieter than the FM kit I had. The FM kit used the larger 50 series SUV/performance muffler & resonator can.

Mangaflow is the shit, not sounds like shit. yours probably sounds bad because of stock piping and cat. you cant let the shop choose your setup, best thing is to buy what you needed and bring it to them. My setup sounds awesome.

3 inch piping, 3 in 3 out magnaflow high flow spun cat, one magnaflow 20 inch long round muffler also 3 in 3 out with a turn down. mine sounds good all the time. i chose my setup carefully.

MagnaFlow generally has a deeper, quieter tone as compared to FlowMaster (FlowSound is a 1/2 cost generic) which is a chambered muffler that produces a louder, higher tone. MagnaFlow also is stainless steel which lasts longer than the FlowMaster aluminized steel.

I put a magnaflow on mine. I love the sound. Not too loud, and good performance. The flowmasters give a more raspy tone. Not what I was looking for. Some prefer that sound though.

X2. I got a Magnaflow and a shitty Midas cat, and it sounds simply divine. Deep throaty growl, no droning on the highway, and a lifetime warranty. My father had a Flowmaster 40 on his Yukon with a 350, and it was loud as fuck and droned something fierce. So I decided to try a Magnaflow and I am blown away.
