Just seeing who has the fiberglass type insulation pad on the underside of their hood on still? I have mine on, but it is starting to tear a lot, and it is a major dust collector. I was going to take it off and throw it away, but in the winter it does seem to help keep the engine a bit warmer right after driving when parked.

If I do toss it I would like to maybe get another one in the future, but haven't seen any for sale. I might be looking for a wrong part. Anyone know the correct part name or number?

It also keeps you engine bay hotter in the summer.

Functional cowl hood on mine. Toss the insulation. It's only there to muffle engine noises.

Isn't it fire retardant? Or just plain retarded? I tore mine out.

Mine is there. No reason to have it, no reason to take it out. It lives a happy uninvolved life under there.

My stock hood still has it but the center was starting to come apart and the intake hat was rubbing a hole in it. Switched to Gen II hood so I no longer use one. Only place I know that sells them is LMC.

If there is a hole in your hood insulation that is usually a sign of separated motor mounts.

I was taught that the purpose of it was to:

1). Fire retardant IE: it will fall on the engine and smother the fire.

2). Quite down the engine bay.

Correct, mounts were shot and were replaced.

Motor mounts are extremely common to go bad on these, I've seen very few without the rub in the middle. Energy Suspension mounts should fix you right up, and you'll never have to worry again.

Is there someplace that would happen to sell a motor mount that doesn't separate? wink.gif

Its more of a sound deadener than an insulation. No reason to keep it there if you don't mind a little extra noise.

I left mine out whenever I put my cowl hood on a couple years ago. No negative effects so far
