Hello all, I'm Sean. New to the forum, but not to Blazers or forums in general. So far, I've owned an 89 S10 Jimmy two door 4X4, a 94 Blazer 4 door 4X4 and now my 00 ZR2. So far the 89 wins...but only because I've had so many issues with the Z.

Anyways, I heard this was the best place on the web for ZR2 info so I had to join up. Here's a pic of my Z.

Bought it in May of last year, and so far haven't really done any mods, just added my stereo and bedlinered the lower portion, front bumper and wheel arches. Blew up the trans twice so I haven't really had any spare cash for mods just yet!

Sadly, nothing at all worthwhile...

I bought the truck and knew the trans was on it's way out. Had a SEL that was the 1-2 shift solenoid, so I swapped that out hoping it'd fix the issue. It didn't, so it went in for rebuild #1. Had the truck back two weeks and went to a fun tiny little mud pit I'd found near my work and had a blast. My fuel pump was going bad so I could only go 1/2 throttle before it started bogging down, so no way in hell could I have "beat on it" too badly. The next day I had a date and on my way to meet the girl...the trans stopped going forward. Reverse was just fine though. Had it towed back to the shop, and they claim I must have beat the everloving snot out of it and wouldn't warranty the whole thing. They agreed to pay labor if i paid parts, but ONLY if I bought the "upgraded, bulletproof" trans rebuild. Cost me 1200 the first time, and an even grand the second time. Needless to say, if it blows up again, I'm making them pay for me to go to another shop, haha.

Pics of the fun I had, how they knew I went offroading, and the inside of the trans are below:

Actually, here's a video of some of the fun:

Note, couldn't go more than 1/2 throttle there and I paused to let everything stop before shifting gears... no "beating" there.

Apparently there was a little mud in the bellhousing...

Inside of the trans, apparently the clutches let go and were digging into the case?

Welcome from Springfield, IL area. Hope you get that tranny mess straightened out. These are great trucks. What are your plans/mods for the Blazer when finances allow?

Well, so far it's been several months without another trans hiccup so I'm hoping that's all settled. *crosses fingers*

Once I get my finances straightened back out, I have some more maintenance stuff to do (leaking radiator, cracked mounting flange on the oil filter housing, loose steering, rust repair in front of the rear wheelwells) but I'd like a lift. Not sure if I want to go SAS or just keep with an IFS lift. Looks like I can do a SAS for only a little more than the IFS lift I was looking at, so I may just go that route so I don't have to deal with IFS breaking so seemingly often.

So, lift, tires, wheels, rearranging my stereo, some side steps, front bumper (maybe with winch?) the usual stuff, I suppose. I keep thinking of a V8 swap, but that seems way out of my range any time soon.

I don't believe a little mud puddle like that screwed up your tranny. Sounds like the shop did something wrong and saw some mud so they blamed you. I am at 167K right now on my original trans and just now starting to have a little hiccup here and there.

Welcome

Oh I absolutely believe that's what happened. However, I was not in a financial position to rent a car while I argued with them over that fact, and ended up just letting them have their way to get the truck back.

That sucks,, I know that I have had more mud in the bell housing then that. Its too bad you couldn't hold out and fight back..

Agreed. However, at least now I have a "bulletproof" trans, right? That's pretty much the only "silver lining" I can come up with, and it does help me sleep at night, haha
