Background Story:
Sadly the last post I did on here was about this topic pretty much exactly lol. Got it all fixed up for a time and had the CV Joint rip in half at the boot because Auto Value gave me the non ZR2 piece even though I told them! That topic was here http://www.zr2usa.co...showtopic=49628.

The current issue is the new axle seal on the DRIVER(EDITED) side is still leaking. I'm wondering if these are common to not be working 100% properly or what things I can check. It is for sure coming from the seal, looks like the center and outside of it.

Current Issue:
The PASSENGER(EDIT) Is on its second CV Joint. The one I mentioned that ripped was the wrong one (It still somehow fit just fine... And they looked it up at the store and got it wrong but I found a ZR2 and a non ZR2 on autotalk and rockauto that match up with either other number wise but not on my receipts...)

Anyways the first CV joint did a near perfect split right around the middle of the boot on the wheel side of the CV shaft. This one I'm 99% sure that they gave me the correct part there because we measured it after and it coincidentally is measured out at the ZR2 CV shaft length. I'm pretty much excluding the wrong one but it still could be connected, but I'm curious what could cause a brand new part with less than 20 miles to rip in this way?

I always say I'm gonna make these short and sweet but they end up a wall of text but I like to think I'm thorough lol... Anyways you guys are all always a help and any input is appreciated! I intend to return my newest CV joint (which is wrong again...) and going with RockAuto and saving 60 bucks after shipping still.

Timeline: New CV joint (most likely correct) breaks = Next CV joint very wrong (too short normal s10) rips into two parts = Current CV Joint is the wrong one after checking, returning tomorrow, asking the ZR2 gods here today!

Don't have experience with a short (wrong) CV....but I could see a short shaft fitting in but being fully extended causing the boot to fail or causing the snap ring to pull out and making a seal shit the bed. It's all a guessing game from my house....LOL

You might want to change the gear oil or at least make sure it's full...put some oil/grease on the new seal and shaft when you get the new cv and seal.

Double check your part numbers and read the description.....it'll say zr2 somewhere in there.

Parts store people aren't always into cars so it's always good to get your part numbers before you even go. I have my part numbers written down and then have the counter guy check em out on his computer. More than once a counter guy would say they don't have it then I tell him/her that on line it shows that they do...few more mins and it appears.

I'm not a smart ass...counter people remember me....and I get first rate service....I think they're glad cause they don't have to play the fifty question game with me...LOL

Thanks for the quick posts guys and yes I am checking parts numbers myself from now on! The one thing I didn't mention is that the seal I put on is a brand new one that is leaking. Should it have had anything done to it like lots of grease or something first to help this? I was told (by them again, though the more knowledgeable guy their) that it just popped right in. My only guess is I was too nice to it and its not in all the way?

And for the CV joint is there anything on the differential side I should check on? The driver side has the bad axle seal too the passenger side has the CV issues, I need to go retype that, but the passenger side is the one that's the farthest from the differential. Could the half shaft or w/e that smaller drive shaft is running to the CV be bad?

Any other ideas from anyone? Got the CORRECT part ordered and its all torn apart right now so prime time to check any possible issues! And for the seal I think I'm gonna try to push it in a bit farther while its on. If that doesn't work at least they are cheap order a new one and scrub its seat with some steel wool. Hoping that helps, again any help welcome!

Found one more thing of mention... On the side that was leaking I was popping the CV joint out to get at the seal to push it in a bit more. While moving it to pop it out I noticed it had some up and down play while still connected. I read some place where they said there is a tiny bit of play in them but the direction has me concerned. Anyone know this answer or have tested yourself? I had a small wrench underneath and could lift up if you wanna test your self too lol. And got the parts now so I'll be attacking that thing sunday!

sounds like the bearing behind the seal might be bad.

personally i would replace the bearing and the seal to eliminate having to do the job twice.

Do you know off hand the part name? Axle bearing or something? and I think the side that had the issues with the actual CV joint might need that too, its pressed in ridiculously far and is hard to get out because the half shaft is hanging out on that side. Thanks too!
