You can go "rock crawling" almost anywhere. Sand dunes on the east side of the country are not as easy to come by.
And some of us get bored of going .01 MPH all day.

Fuck Commiefornia. I'll tolerate going there on business but I will never spend a dime in that shithole as a tourist.
And SL isn't exactly a national meet like some of the rock crawl meets have been. Most live in Michigan or the surrounding states. Plus it's more appealing to stock rigs as anything can drive at SL and be reasonably sure you won't break something. Rocks are a different story.
But like JW said, organize a meet wherever you want and interested people will come.

Glamis is barely in Cali, it's just sand. Other than getting there it wouldn't cost any more than SL. And there is less regulation from what I've seen.

and real wheelers, we get bored playing in a cat box all day
just playin, I do like the dunes, but get bored fairly easily out there. once a year is good for me
