so i took the bumper and hitch off, the side skirts, my broken fender flares, then grinded all the excess metal off. Then i spent about 3 hours cleaning all the clumps of rust off the rear frame brace, cleaned everything all up then hit it with 3M rubberized undercoating. i now have a ton more articulation for the back tires and my wheeling departure angle is a lot better for only having a shackle lift. later im going to get a steel 2-4 to inbetween the frame mounts where the hitch was mounted, weld that in there and put in a couple D-ring recovery points. Only thing im worried about is my gas tank/plastic skid is way more exposed to potential rocks....anyone know where to find a good steel gas tank skid plate?
Here's a couple pics for you guys

I'm not a fan, but the plastics really don't like the rocks and trees i subject them to when I wheel. They like to start detaching themselves.

Fair enough, no more breaking if they're not there!

Way to use your noggin.

The bigger reason is that i was having trouble roppin around with my jeep wrangler friends going up sudden steep hills/rocks cause my hitch and bumper would drag/anchor and take all the traction away from the rear tires and i would be stuck in a high centered sort of way. No more will that happen!

O.o

I don't know whether to cry or shake your hand. That thing is definitely well-used, there's no doubt on that point.

That should help the departure angle a lot.

Would you be willing to take a picture directly from the side for me? Looking to see how far back the frame sticks out and where the body mounts are. I've been seriously thinking about rear bumper options and that would help a lot.

I really like the look of that too. Always wanted to do something with the rear. Gives it a kind of clean roll pan look without a roll pan.

yeah that bumper is hella awesome i would love to do something like that, once i get that piece of metal between the frame mounts that stick out it should make it look more complete, and then i will have a recovery point vs. using the axle.

About the charcoal canister, (evaporate emissions right?) i took off the two or so inches of excess metal above it and i was going to flip it onto its side and tack weld a mount for it...i was positioning the metal hoses into the body to get them out of the way and the thicker one snapped...(several curse words) so i took the other two hoses off and positioned em in there, all separate from each other. I had no idea what was about to happen, I started her up...ran fine, revved fine, service engine light DID NOT come on. Not sure what to think, anybody think this will mess with MPG and engine? or am i just not going to be able to pass emissions?

And yes I will snap a picture from the direct side once i get her out of the garage....I'm in the middle of replacing my control arm bushings, i got the driver side done, now im tearing apart the passenger....and lucky me my hub is basically welded onto the CV spline. I just got done pressing a perfect imprint of the end of the CV spline into a heavy duty 3 arm puller, and managed to corkscrew my fattest screwdriver trying to get it out....the bitch still wont budge. PLEASE ANY TIPS!!

There are no steel platings available that I know of.
Sputnik will build you one. He's built a 100 or so of those front skid plates....

well if i cant armor it...has anyone heard of cutting a hole in the back of your truck and putting the tank up in there then sealing the hole around it so your tank is up in the blazer instead of hanging down?
