I don't think this will work guys:

My skid comes up a lot higher than factory.

ehh. no winch compatibility = no deal for me. I've wanted a winch for a LONG time now, and once I get this mount there'll be no stopping me. If you can acomodate, that'd be great. Oil Filter door would be bonus points.

No door = deal breaker for some of you? Now that's lame, its 4 bolts people. Hell when I had a front skid I removed it to change the filter. A door is not a deal breaker. Stop being picky.

Hey Mitch in my thread on installing winch mount you'll see I had to notch the factory CF plate to make it work. If ur skid plate will fit a 2 inch BL truck I'll modify it to make it work.

Oil access door......don't do it. Appreciate the effort man. I don't wheel much since my front CF plate broke after a wheeling trip about 6 months ago.

It's not a necessity, but it'd be nice... I don't like having to undo bolts to change my oil. We have to pull a skid plate on my dad's D-max to do it, and that's one of the few places I can say my S-10 was better designed. biggrin.gif.

I realize that the door would make it less strong and harder to build, so I won't let it stop me. It DOES, however, HAVE to be able to support one of CKnaffle's winch mounts.

Sorry guys, but I'm not going to do the hassle of designing a skid plate to fit a winch mount that I don't have in my hands. If one of you guys wants to send me yours for a week then I might be able to make something up. But without actually having something to measure, I'm afraid I won't know EXACTLY how to modify it.

And there will be no door. I thought about it a lot, but I think the door makes the skid look like junk. Its 6 bolts to take off.

Not only would you have to notch the plate, but you would have to shorted the plate down to the top bend. Otherwise there will be skid plate where your winch is.

Stupid door is useless, I take the whole skidplate off when I change my oil. Its a lot easier

Enough to ship you my winch plate for a week or two for you to design around... smile.gif

Oh, and non-BL for me.

I think your over complicating this. The stock skid works with the hidden winch. As Ducksface said earlier, offer two styles. Your original design and a diamond plate version of the factory skid for people with the winch.

Okay so here is a basic sketch of how the plate would go on a winch mount truck

It would go underneath the entire mount and have spacers between the plate and the frame where it bolts to.

I'm 99.5% sure body lifting will not change any of the fitment of the skidplate. I'm going to test fit mine on B_Rich's truck soon, just have to find a time when both of us are free.

Body lift has nothing to do with the skid plate [or the winch] it has to do with drilling two new holes in the fairlead to get it to match your license plate place/spot/holder IF YOU DON"T have a body lift. All you do is lower your fairlead by two inches if you don't have a lift. OR NOT, it's just cosmetic.

Winch mount, mounts to frame, not body. Skid mounts to frame not body, no changes in either for body lift or suspension lift. On bds lift; sway bar WAS hidden by skid, before lift, now skid is between frame and sway bar.

And yes, it will fit under the winch ,ount just fine. You need some spacers and to realign the holes just a tad.

I can't mock it up on my truck without removing the skid I made and I'm too busy theis week/weekend to accomodate. Just hold the skid up in the front and take a look.

If Justin will let me, I'll change my winch mount address and just have it delivered straight to you. You can play around with it as long as you'd like, and then just ship it on to me. I would ask that you pay the shipping for the mount from you to me, as you'll be making money off of my investment.

I'm in NO hurry to install my mount, as I don't even have a winch yet, and probably won't until this winter. So you can take all the time you would need, without screwing up someones winch dreams. And I'm REALLY wanting one of these skids, so it'd be my pleasure...

Just let me know if you're interested. PM me and I'll start working out the fine details with Justin.

Okay, I should have a reply to your idea by the end of the night. I gotta think up a couple ideas first. I think what I would do is just copy the part of the winch mount that bolts on, then send yours on its way. That way I would have the bottom section of the mount to kinda play with and test the fitment when I produce them.

That would work, or like I said, you're welcome to hold on to the winch mount as long as you need. I doubt I get the winch yet this year, it will probably be next spring, so I'm in no hurry to get it mounted. You would be welcome to hang on to it for at least your first batch, to ensure proper fitment.

i'm in on one, just let me know what the final cost is! unless you already have the 10... any chance you'd make other under body protection? i'd be down to completely get rid of my composite stuff!!! i think this is a perfect candidate for raptor liner too!!

Ok, I have to talk to my steel shop yet to make sure I get a reasonable price locked in on a production run of the parts to make these. I'm banking that they will give me the same price as mine, but it could go up since he's kind of a long time friend and cuts me crazy deals but if I am selling much stuff through him, he might charge me full price for materials and shearing. I don't think it will be that big of a difference, but if it is more than 20-30 bucks different, I might have to raise the original 100 just a touch in order to keep from losing money on this project.

Hopefully I will get a chance to make some different skid plate in the future. It depends on how this goes. I might not be able to get to them this summer though because I leave for school the first part of August.

Man my truck looks like crap in that picture. Ducksface just take a pic of your modified skid plate on the truck and post it up for Mitch to see. I think that would be the easiest way to figure it out.

Ok I will make a list tomorrow of people who are onboard for this. I will need to know who wants one for the winch and who wants one for no winch. They will not be interchangeable.
