Here is what he has planned. dana 44 front, from a 70s f-150, ford 9'' from a bronco. They need re-geared for lower, and he is putting a 400 small block in it. He is wanting to put 8'' lift springs up front, but keep it spring under. and one question is can he use the rancho 44044 springs for the rear? if so he wants to do spring over with those, and he is ganna buy my 36 tsl's just to get him by. We havent figured steering out though, and i will try to get some pics over the weekend for you.

You can use any spring if you feel like making/moving mounts. I want to say that 44044's are around ~46" long. Stock chevy half ton springs are probably 56". Just guessing off the top of my head. I think either way 44044's are not the same length as stockers.

All depends on if you want to change the wheelbase, move spring mounts, etc....

Benzie's answer is right on, cept I think Chevy 1/2ton stock rear springs may be 52". 44044 would not be an advantage over the 52's with the exception of them just being new.

8" lift springs to go spring under sounds ghey. Why? Any particular reason he really wants to be spring under? If it's all about the height, then he'd be much better off with something like a 44044 spring over. Plus those 8" lift springs will have about as much flex as my concrete driveway.

dont ask me why, I think he wants to avoid going hi-steer on it. I think this is going to be a cheap swap, and im trying to not let it be, but i told him to do research and i let him read on here alot, but im trying to help him as much as possible.

OK here are some questions, We had to use the stock rear springs for now, and found out that since there so old, they sagged so much when we let it back down on its own weight. If he went to the junk yard and got springs off of a newer zr2 would those fix the sag that it has. It also has a 3'' lift block in the rear. Im ganna try to get some more pictures for you guys.

I forgot shocks to. To get the proper measurement for those, Do you check the length from mount to mount at ride height, and then flex it out and check the full flex measurement and also the collapsed measurement?

ride height is kinduva unimportant measurement.

flex it out to know the difference between fully compressed and fully extended and buy some shocks with at least that much travel

Well there is a update. Im not sure where I left off, so Im ganna let it start from here. 8'' superlift springs in the front. Stock in rear with 6'' lift blocks. but he has some old chevy springs now, and I think he is ganna switch to them. Hi-steer arms will be going on soon. He has rear trac-bars for the rear made up. Making his crossmember this week. Its got a GM 350. and His tires and wheels. For the Street Worn out 36x12.50-15 TSL swampers on 15x8 steel wheels. His mud/show tires are 35x15.50-15 TSL/SX swampers on 15x14 chrome bart steel wheels. We are ganna try to get it out this weekend and see what it looks like. I need to take my camera over there and take pics for everyone.

Got them on the wheels, but our tire machine didnt want to pop them on the bead. Even used a HD ratchet strap. The Discount Tire said $40 to pop 6 tires on the bead. will have them popped on tomorrow with pictures.

So I guess his plan is leafs for now and then later going to switch to coils. He didnt cut the knuckles off, for a correct driveline angle. So the front diff. doesnt look nice for a driveshaft, but he might not put one in it. Front is 8'' lift springs, rear is stock springs with 6'' lift blocks and some big shackles. The rear is very flexy, bouncy. We got it outside and took some pics. He was thinking he was going to have to level the rear, but we think it looks really good like this.

Here they are...He also have a little selection of tires in the back yard. We had to remove the front axle and springs and use a cherry picker to lower the truck enough to get it out. Also the tires in one pictures on the left is a TSL 36x12.50-15 on a 15x8 wheel. The next is 35x15.50-15 on a 15x14 wheel and the last is a stock s10 wheel and tire.

I really like the welded blocks on the rear. That's gonna make for some awesome axle-wrap. He really should lower 4-5" then cut some metal out of the way. JMHO

Well he wants to put bags in the back now, to try to level it out, and he has some shocks for the rear, but not for the front. I think its not worth the time to try to use the bags to level it out and leave it like so. Im interested to see how it rides down the road, and yea did you notice the like 15'' long shackles back there to. We got it started last night and it sounds pretty good with just open headers. Its got the stock 5spd, and 3.50 gears. He geared it to drive down the highway.
