You can use any spring if you feel like making/moving mounts. I want to say that 44044's are around ~46" long. Stock chevy half ton springs are probably 56". Just guessing off the top of my head. I think either way 44044's are not the same length as stockers.
All depends on if you want to change the wheelbase, move spring mounts, etc....

8" lift springs to go spring under sounds ghey. Why? Any particular reason he really wants to be spring under? If it's all about the height, then he'd be much better off with something like a 44044 spring over. Plus those 8" lift springs will have about as much flex as my concrete driveway.

1.Clutch
2.Engine mounts.
3.Engine Install.
4.Hi-steer.and steering.
5.Warn lock-outs(finish driver side)
6.Brakes(finish driver side) and make brakes lines.
7.Re-locate leaf springs a little.
8.Trans. Crossmember.
9.Tom-wood high angle u-joint.
10.Heater Core.
Rear.
11. Need either really long (U-bolts, anyone have any?) or he is ganna do long shackles.
12. Brakes and make brake lines.
13. Exhaust.
Random metal and hardware. Im sure there is more, thats all i can think of.

flex it out to know the difference between fully compressed and fully extended and buy some shocks with at least that much travel
