after reading as much as I could find here is what I understand. Correct me if I am wrong
The short OHC came only in gray The short OHC can have just the temp/compass or it can include the mileage data. (it came both ways) The short OHC came with and without the homelink (garage door opener) I'm not sure about the long OHC but here are my questions If I get a short OHC I need the wiring to plug in near the fuse box? and I need the temp sensor that goes in front of the rad, right? Do I need the bracket that is behind the head liner to mount the short one? What, besides the wiring harness do I need to get the mileage data to work (if I get one with the mode button) I would like the long one but from what I have read it is a PITA to mount and I'm not sure how clean it would look. I hope someone can clear all of this up for me. |

Shorts came in diff colors.
If it has a mode button it has the mileage stuff. homelink is an option. Some will also have the moon roof button. |

I have one from my 04 I swap in one with the mileage stuff. I also have the wire harness needed to add it in. It has the mount too.
The wire harness is for a unit with the mileage feature but I cut console end off and used it with mine. So you will need to crimp/solder my plug to the harness. No biggie, I could even do it if ya wish. I also have the auto dim rearview mirror I did not use it since I have a blazer the rear mounted spare will not allow it to work correctly. But in a truck it will be fine. Make me an offer. if you have a truck...it will not plug straight in. you have to tap for wires to get it to work....most of them can be had behind the radio
check these out...i can answer about any ?? you have on OHC http://www.s-10crewcab.com/phpBB2/viewtopi...asc&start=0 http://www.s10forum.com/forum/f200/overhea...install-214399/ http://www.s10forum.com/forum/f62/overhead...st-here-285146/ http://forums.s-series.org/viewtopic.php?t=32828 and a file for wiring colors... http://www.mediafire.com/?yu34jmbtt0j This post has been edited by raven2510: Feb 24 2009, 11:06 PM |

the last link there doesn't work.
I've gone thru all those links and can't find just a simple diagram. I'm trying to figure out how to wire in my stuff and can't find just a simple diagram. |

that doc will give you all the wire colors and what they do. from there you have to wire it up. use the wires on the radio...almost all of them are there and its easier/less messy than i did it. i think the only wire not there is the CLASS 2 SERIAL DATA isnt there...but you can get that from the BCM or the OBDII port(i did it there).
and i didn't know we cold attach files like that...i'll have to remember that This post has been edited by raven2510: Feb 24 2009, 11:05 PM |

I am leaning tords doing the whole thing. How many more wires does the mode/ mileage option require? |

i think like 1....maybe 2. i would do the mileage one....also called a mode model. its the same difficulty level to install and you get more features. i took me 2 days to install...in 95* heat and i took a break every 2 hours or so to cool off. i even have the special screws they use to attach the front of the console to the roof. ill post a pic of mine when i get home tonight.

It is the Drk-Gr/white vehicle speed sensor circuit 817 and it looks like it can be picked up at the radio plug. Now, how does it know how much fuel you have in the tank and how can it monitor mileage from this wire alone. I'm missing something some place. |

QUOTE ("HenryJ") C209 (Dome harness to body harness) is the connection for the harness. It just below the base of the A post. By taking loose the fuse assembly and raising it there is room to reach up through from the opening behind the parking brake release in through the dash. A screwdriver inserted through the side of the dash may assist in guiding the connector for removal and installation. Keep in mind that this wiring is for the utilities. The trucks wiring harness is different and does not include the serial data wire at the C209 connector. The body harness connector is oriented on it's right side and lettered J-S on the right from the top down. H-A is the left or bottom row. A - RAP fuse supply voltage - DK GRN B - Backup lamps supply voltage - LT GRN C - Trip Computer/NAV class 2 serial data - YEL D - inside air temperature sensor signal (auto AC) - DK GRN E - Instrument panel lamps fuse supply voltage - GRY F - Ground - BLK/WHT G - Outside air temperature sensor signal - LT GRN/BLK H - Ground - BLK J - Sensor return (auto AC) - BLK K - Courtesy lamp supply voltage - ORN L - Courtesy lamp switch signal - WHT M - LED dimming signal - PPL/WHT N - Vehicle speed signal - DK GRN/WHT P - RAP Fuse supply voltage - DK GRN R - Battery positive voltage - ORN S - Ignition 3 voltage - BRN All color remain the same through this connection. You can tap the serial data at the OBDII connector, or the radio has one there as well. I don't have the pin position or colors for the wire at those locations. Some consoles had an external compass sensor. I don't know which needed them. Just FYI. This post has been edited by HenryJ: Feb 25 2009, 01:30 PM |

did a little more studying and the mode part requires 2 wires! the Drk-Grn/white vehicle speed sensor circuit 817 and the yellow class II serial data wire. Now that makes more sense. Both of these can be picked up at the radio plug right?
