Is there a easy and honest way to tell if the blazer I have is a genuine ZR2? I'm hopeing it would be in the VIN but it doesnt seem to be that easy..

Put a tape measure in the center of your back wheel and measure up 15 inches and the bottom of the zr2 should be level woth 15 inches deadhorse.gif

Not quite. That can change really easily. A lot of Z's (Blazers Especially) get some ass sag, so that would decrease that measurement. Adding shackles or an AAL will raise that measurement, as well as a SOA.

BTW - I'm assuming that by saying "the bottom of the zr2 should..." you are referring to the bottom of the ZR2 Flare. No?

That and the 8.5" rear axle would pretty much guarantee a ZR2.

Not true at all...

The ZR2 is the only automatic transmission s-series guaranteed to have the 8.5"

And you can pull the rear diff cover and check for the locker.

Again, no way a good way to identify it... The 7 5/8" diff also had the G80 option.

Any 5-speed S-Series has the 8.5" diff (and iron front diff...). The ZR2 has the wider axle.

not true buddy... I have a 97 5 speed 4x4 with the 4.3 vortec along with a 7.5 rearend and an ALUMINIUM front diff

Probably a few fleet vehicles came with the 8.5" as well, I know Jigg found a 4 door Blazer with the 8.5"

Open the glove box and look at the RPO sticker, it has a bunch of 3 digit codes. If you see ZR2 on there you got a real one.

I can't believe no one responded w/ a smart ass comment and said look for the ZR2 stickers on the side of the bed! haha! Now before you mention it, I know they all don't come w/ the decals, cause mine is one lacking them. Just figured someone would have already thrown that out there.

x2.....I was also waiting for the Bilstein shocks comment....I've heard that one a few times, as well....

This is hilarious! Did some of y'all just spend a day or two tearing apart your Z looking for random stamps in the tranny and wheel wells. etc? Common, fess up, who went out to their Z after reading this post to find all these "markers" and then search for that one which hasn't been posted yet?

I believe ZR2's have a full box frame and reg s10's don't
And you can pull the rear diff cover and check for the locker.

Oh but they didn't all come with a boxed in frame. I have a 1994 reg cab zr2 (glove box rpo, 8.5 rear, g80 rpo, flares, and leaf spring perches, track bar, ect....)
And it is NOT boxed in all the way it is a c frame from mid cab back

My old 1995 ext cab zr2 WAS boxed all the way back may be a 1994 only thing idunno.gif

I know this post is a little late but the info is good

My 96 Z doesnt have a full box, wish it did, the box stops right before rear leaf springs, had three cracks after the box on the passenger side when I bought it

Speaking about the stickers one of the guys at my work has a standard 4x4 with zr2 stickers on the bed, dude wont believe me when I tell him its not a Z, freakin dummy

The dealer who sold me mine found out the hard way that mine was, in fact, a ZR2.

They replaced the CV axle with a standard S10 Blazer unit and I destroyed it in the first hour ( the ZR2 axle is 3/4" of an inch longer) :KnaffiesBuggy:
