You should be able to get it out without taking shaft out. I got mine out with no problems( other than scratching my arms to crap). A friend of mine has a 2wd S10 and he had to take shaft out. My shaft was out of the way enough for me to reach under and put plug in.

go at it from the driver's side wheel well. Pull back the rubber splash guards
If you use an extension, it should be just enough room. |

On my 2wd I had to take the shaft lose... On my Z, I got to it through the fenderwell, it really wasn't too hard... I just ended up ripping one of my splash gaurds all to pieces :(

Through the fenderwell like mentioned above, Helps to remove the tire for more room but isnt necessary.
I used a spark plug socket, Different length extensions, and a wobble. Didnt have any real problems doing mine and can knock them all out in a half of an hour or less. |

Dont let the steering wheel/shaft spin with it disconnected from the steering box. You will break the air bag clock spring i believe it is called if it is 180*/360* off from center and you turn it to lock with it reconnected.

I just did my plugs...
On the driver side I pulled the whole intake and box out of the truck so I could get down into there and I tore my hands to hell but I got all of them. The one that gave me the biggest trouble was #5 (the one closest to the firewall). Once I got the bright idea to pull off the wheel I found it was a straight shot to get into there. Also I had a swivel extension that looks like a short extension with a funny shaped male end that let the socket swivel a little. (I hope that makes sense but it was a life saver) For the middle one on the driver side, once I got the spark plug boot off I had no problem getting into there with the socket, with out that swivel it would have been a real pain in the ass. |

Check out the tune up part # in the sticky in this forum. Ac delco double platinums
For the cap and rotor I got the Napa gold set, they had all brass contacts. They were echlin or something like that. The truck runs real smooth now. :) |
