I've determined that I have a junk fuel pressure regulator, so as long as I'm taking apart my upper intake manifold I went ahead and ordered this MPFI conversion.

Any idea of how long it'll take an average shadetree mechanic like myself to install? How about anything else I might need to buy, any other work I should do while I'm in there? I don't mind spending a bit of extra money if there's a good return on it..

If you have not done it already, you will find this a quick and easy job, its nothing like doing an intake gasket.

My engine is a dog at idle. Misfire's, has a SES light and code for multiple misfire, burns my spark plugs every 500 miles, oil pressure is down because excess fuel is getting into the oil. It even died when i was parking in reverse. Im getting about 124 miles to 13-14 gallons. Right now i think i have the worst case scenario for a fuel injector problem. I should have done this mod a loooooong time ago. I will definetly let yall know how the truck runs after i do upgrade the system.

Be careful, if you haven't done your intake gaskets yet, that may be the cause of your problems, I had a 97 C1500 5.7 with a bad misfire problem, was pulling my hair out trying to figure out what was causing it, almost replaced the spiders, when i decided to do my gaskets on the intake cause there was coolant leaking out of the back, and low and behold the intake port frames on the gaskets had broke and it had a huge vac leak that was causing a lean cyl, this had nothing to do with dex cool, that is why I say dex cool in not the cause of intake gasket failures, othewise , other gaskets would be failing too, but make sure the intake gasket is good first.

I did this conversion monday. Drivability is much improved, I'm still waiting to see if I got anything out of it for fuel economy.

Incorrect, batch fire was on the older systems, 96 and older. The 96 to 2002 had the spider assembly but, 6 small injectors on the fuel metering body. Those injectors all worked independently and fired different from the others. This newer kit eliminates the poppets and places injectors in it's place.

But, I'm sort of confused, Does that mean this new MPFI system has 12 injectors? (6 on the meter body and 6 popped into the lower intake?

I think it only 6 injectors, not 12! lol

if you want to do this, probably want to do the mariner intake manifold swap instead as it have lot of pros to it.

So, just to make sure, since I have an '03 with an "X" in the VIN I can ignore this right? Or do I need to take the intake appart yet again?

Hey, while you have the fenders and crap off of it, will you take a picture of the vacuum accumulator and the hose attached to it, and the view from the engine side of the fenderwell? I don't need it, but it's a question here about three times a month. I'll clip the pictures into my gallery until we get a usable 'where the hoses go' sticky. There must not be a good sticky 'cause we sure get a LOT of people asking about the accumulator.

Thanks.

You should be able to see into your upper intake through the tb, if there are wires to the injectors its mfi. The poppets just have fuel line.
