glass is an amorphous solid. therefore it has properties of both states True, but glass will never flow until you get to about 600*, then changes start to take place. For our environment and sense of time, glass is as good as a solid except in the fine print of the chemicals. lol QUOTE BUT: Glass is never completely solid. It's always "slightly fluid" and will sag over time. The extreme example of this is structural glass which is bent into curves with heated sandbags. Urban legends. It might be theoreticaly possible that glass sags or flows towards gravity over time, but we are talking "over time" in the sense that our universe hasn't even been around long enough yet for that to happen. Sometimes people say that windows in old colonial homes in the south and east have glass that is thicker at the bottom and this is because the glass has "flowed" towards the bottom. Well, if that was true then all the glass that has been around a shit ton longer should be in puddles, like all the glass that is found in the pyramids in egypt. But it's not. As a matter of fact, it's exactly the same as it was when they poured it or blew it back in the pharroh days. The truth is, for every piece of glass you find in an old house that is thicker at the bottom, you could probably find another one that is thicker on the top or the sides, it's all about the way it was made. Modern glass is poured in a molten state onto a bath of tin, and it floats on top (hence "float glass") letting gravity make it incredibly smooth and even. Back in the day the only way to get flat glass was to blow a bubble and then flatten or spin it and let the g-forces pull it into a flat shape, both methods are imperfect sciences and would result in variances in the thickness. Now, take that imperfect sheet you just made and cut it into the size for your window pane, it would make sense that whoever is putting in the glass in would glaze the thicker side down because, well, it makes sense for stability to have the heaviest side on the bottom. EDIT TO ADD: I forgot the other thing you mentioned in your post GeorgeZboy, about the glass being bent. Glass is bent while it is hot, real hot. Putting heated sandbags on a sheet of glass might make it "art" to somebody, but it won't bend anymore than how much the glass will bend already. Which, you are definately right about one thing, glass does bend a LOT more than people think. Gotta love moving around 120"X72" sheets of 3/16ths annealed in the wind. lmao It gets waaavvvyyyyy. To the topic though, while many times this issue can be fixed with a wiper arm bend (and i encourage you to try), like Justin said that is usualy going to happen on the passenger side. Again, give it a try, it's a very common problem on a lot of cars that the wiper just isn't getting enough pressure. I'm also curious to know what brand of glass you have in there, there is also the small posibility of a badly bent or distorted windshield from the manufacturer... But, after those two things are said, if this is a spot that has just appeared out of nowhere without a change of wipers or windshield, I would have to agree with Justin and think that something oily has gotten on that spot and it's just smearing over it. Tell us more; is it actual drops of rain it misses or does it look smeared when it wipes? Also, run your hand over the spot and the surounding areas of the glass, if it were to be dented you could feel it. Also look through that spot, if it is out of bend or has a distortion you will be able to move your eyes over the spot and have objects behind the glass distort, kinda like looking through some one elses glasses. |

Yeah, in my opinion I wouldn't spend the money on the FIPK, I would honestly go the "ebay" route. Same performance upgrade, FRACTION of the price. Just buy one of the cheap tubes off ebay, throw away the filter that comes with it, and buy a nice cone filter to throw on the end of it, non oiled model. To me, that's the same thing as the K&N, and for these little trucks you don't need to pay for the name on this particular accesory. A lot of things in life you get what you pay for and I would never suggest going cheap, but in this instance I would say the extra money for the K&N gets you nothing. |

I love the way they look, but yeah, the front ends on these trucks are pretty fucking weak to start with, when you move the wheels out further it will wear your front end faster with out a doubt. It's all about if it's worth it to you. I drive a work van around the majority of the time so for the last two years my truck has seen probably 6k miles total, so I don't give a shit, when I need to replace something (like I do right now) I'll just do it. I would guese that frond end wear is magnified by anywhere from 15-20% on the low end up to like 50% quicker on the high end, depending on your driving style, offroading, and if you have a Tbar crank or not... Like I say, to me they are worth it because I got the stance I wanted, they look good to me, and they are cheap (i had already promised myself no more spending money on this truck, I want a full size. No more dumping money into this little bitch. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) ). They look great! Buuuuut I also noticed what caltman did, and I think you need to keep a few things in mind when driving: 1. I wouldn't attempt any turns that require going over a bump, say for instance turning left into a parking lot from the street, or turning right while going over a speed bump. With those tires and no trimming attempting that maneuver any faster than 2mph is going to result in a sound of rubber and plastic meeting viloently. Not to worry, the tires will win that battle (your flairette thing will be first to go), but when the plastic is gone there is the metal in the fender well, and that's where the tires are going to come out on the loosing end most of the time. You'll know you're at that point when the sound goes from plastic crunching to more of a cheese grater rumble. The second thing, and only slightly less damaging, will be attempting to conquer speed bumps at the same speed you are used too. I would say that with the wheels perfectly straight and a decent size speed bump anything more than about 9mph is going to result in the sounds I described earlier with your current set up. I'm not saying this is impossible ( i have 33's with a 2"er, a t-bar crank, trimming, etc), but you are going to be very surprised at how uch those things rub. Go eeeeaaaasssssyyyy for a while and learn the limits or you will start tearing up the outer lugs of your expensive m/t's rather quickly. Drive it easy, see where it's rubbing, and then go to work with a $5 air cut off wheel and a shit ton of cutting discs from harbour freight... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rockon.gif) |

I don't think they made one that was not a privacy tint from the factory, even if it wasn't you could have aftermarket film applied to get it close for 20-30 bucks. But again, I believe its a moot point, they don't come anyother way. These pieces of glass are so expensive if you find one for cheap jump on it. And as for cutting the old glass out yourself with a razor blade, I admire your enthusiasm, but cutting the 1/4 glass out with a hand held razor blade would be like painting your truck with a white out brush. I guesse it could be acomplished theoreticaly, but your probably going to cut your self or give up way before you get anywhere close to getting it to even move. At the absolute minimum you would need a utility blade and a good handle. I've cut out one 1/4 glass with a long knife (what we in the auto glass trade call our knife with a long handle and a utility blade) over the years I've been doing auto glass and that was just to see if I could. It was a honda civic and it was still dificult, the amount of glue honda used in there early 2000 civics is NO WHERE near what gm uses on these 1/4 glasses, plus it's so much bigger. Then when you add in the cost of buying the right glue and primers for the glass (you need urethane and a black bare metal primer from the same mfg. to prime the scratches from cutting out the glass/removing the old urethane, and depending on the mfg. of the glue you could need a glass prep primer) and the real likely hood of a mess/ water leak, you would be way ahead if you got the glass for as cheap as you could from either here or a junkyard and then found a reputable shop to install it for a fair price... Just my .02. Good luck bud! |

Not only did it make all the little subuaru wagons I used to own run smoother, but I used it as a personal lubricant once and it worked like a charm. Burnt a little and the smoke was weird, but got the job done!! |

Good luck bud, I asked the same thing here ------> clickity-click I ended up checking with the dealer, they don't sell it except with the flare. The only option is some sort of universal product, but I didn't search, mine weren't to bad so I cleaned them up real nice, softened them up, then glued them onto the flare pushing the sections that had seperated back together. Turned out ok, I definately didn't feel like a treasure hunt for the right stuff..... Weaksauce, I know. |
