  1. Thanks, I've been looking at eBay and the like. They are outrageous there for a 5.3
  2. No it really shouldn't be too bad. I guess time to start saving. Did you pick your motor up on eBay, junk yard, lkq?
  3. So I finally got to going onto carb( I didn't have time to call) it listed the following for conversion - engine must be same year or newer - engine must be from same class eg: passenger, light duty etc - engine must have all original smog test equipment - if it is a California labeled vehicle, it has to be a California labeled engine.
  4. Well I appreciate the info. I'm going to make some calls to see what I can find out. It will be more expensive, but not by that much compared to rebuilding a 350 plus computers and I will need a new transmission anyway
  5. Hmm did you have cats or did you just put a aftermarket one on? The way he made it sound on the phone was that it was a pita. I don't know why they would make it more difficult seeing how it would be a more efficient motor ya know
  6. Very true I'm just looking for some people and they're insight on there power and how it feels in the blazer/truck. I would do Ls, but this would bring a lot of trouble getting it bard. I live in California. Everyone knows how nice, I mean strict it is here. I called the bar and ref. They both said I can do a 350 so long as I don't jump up to obd2. they said seeing how it is obd 1 if I stick to obd 1 it will save me a lot of trouble. That being said I plan on building one( mildly) I already have a set of vortex heads that I plan on putting on. why would installing an OBD2 motor cause more issues? If you have all of the proper emissions equipment installed with it, it shouldn't be a big deal. I know they are strict, I lived in Sacramento for 9 years and did many fuely conversions. Did a few early OBD2 motors. Never an issue with the referees. Unless things have really changed! Sent from my Galaxy S5 The ref said it would be more of a headache. How hard was it for you to push it through to get it bard?

  9. Hi all, I just purchased a 85 s15 jimmy for my project vehicle. I'm putting a v8 in it (5.7) this is going to replace my current vehicle. It is going to be used for mountains, camping, long distance. Moderate offroading. I would Like to know for people that have done it. What did you feel was just right. I was thinking 250-300hp 300 ft lbs
  10. I would assume your shifting is fine? And philly is right the vss is located on back right hand side of transmission. Two wires going to it. If memory serves me right a 1" wrench should take it off.Expensive little thing too. But I would check wiring if its shifting fine because if the vss is malfunctioning you will have a cel and a in ability to shift if its a auto Sent from my DROID RAZR HD using Tapatalk
  11. Very nice score so hard to find door panels that aren't broken now days Sent from my DROID RAZR HD using Tapatalk
  12. That's interesting. Kinda reminds me of like a jeep with half doors . I wonder if its a hard top. I think it would be better that way ya know Sent from my DROID RAZR HD using Tapatalk
  13. I had the stock radio at the time. I checked all the grounds they were good. Cleaned the connectors. My tach for rpm would be the only one freaking out. And all the lights would come on. Then the mileage went to km then went to zero and started counting up from there Sent from my DROID RAZR HD using Tapatalk
  14. Haha I thought I was the only one. I actually have a 98 that I bought from a friend and was doing the same thing. Long story short I would bang on it. It would stop. I ended up breaking the plastic. Replaced it with a used one no more problem. Just see what mileage is on the one you are buying because mileage is recorded in the cluster Sent from my DROID RAZR HD using Tapatalk
  15. Could you just tie the pink wire into a key on +12v accessory wire otherwise how do you bypass the lock on the shifter? Also any info on if you have to modify something to be able to remove your key from the ignition or am I over thinking this? Thanks again for your help. Ok never mind on the key stuck in the ign. I reread the pinned thread and you have to get rid of the wire in the column. Is ther only one wire I will see by itself? Can that wire be cut or do I have to follow it and remove it completly? Wish there were some pics still available for the pinned thread. Sorry for all the questions. When I removed the column shift, I removed it all. The bolts that hold it onto the steering column were removed so even the bracket is gone. The ign. Wire that locks it out I just left there tucked it away all it is is a pin that is pushed and it moves freely and has not locked up once. The wiring I was thinking that you could splice into the pink. I just didn't want to f@#k with it anymore as far as the interlock there is a pin the bottom right hand side of the you pull the pin out a little and zip tie the interlock and it will work. I still put my foot on the brake and everything just out of habit Sent from my DROID RAZR HD using Tapatalk Thanks for all your help. I will probably start on this next weekend. Good idea took me a couple hours but really worth it to me Sent from my DROID RAZR HD using Tapatalk
